How to care for your shoes

Photo courstesy of www.candigirl.co.uk

I have been careless with my shoes before making almost all of my shoes unusable.

Most shoes I love and those which are branded were usually kept in a box inside my cabinet. But came a time that I have to remove them inside since I need the space. This was the time when my shoes started to deteriorate fast.

Here are some tips on how to care for your shoes.

1. Clean shoes regularly. Remove dirt, dust and other elements regularly.

2. Use shoe bags. Shoe bags help shoes from losing its luster by keeping shoes inside clean and shiny. It keeps them away from dust and dirt. But still, always make it a habit to clean shoes once in a while even those that are seldom used.

3. Do not leave anything leather in places with extreme temperature condition. My aunt kept her leather shoes inside a cabinet. She usually turns on the a/c whenever she is inside the room and turns it off when she’s going out. And after awhile, the leather chip off of the shoes. My guess, it didn’t survived the on and off tropical heat and a/c coldness of the room.

4. Use shoe trees. Shoe trees are placed inside the shoes to preserve its shape.

5. Use them once in a while. I have this habit of favoring one shoes at a time. That’s the problem when you work from home or a stay at home mom like me. I seldom go out therefor, I seldom wear my shoes, thus making my shoes brittle.

I’ve lost count of how many shoes I’ve ruined just by leaving them around and not taking good care of them equally. Look what happened to me recently, another shoes bite the dust. At least it was not difficult to justify to hubby why I need to purchase another shoes. *grins*

How about you, care to share your tips in caring for your shoes?
